Family Reunification Poland 2026: Wife & Kids

Family reunification Poland 2026: who can bring a wife and kids, documents, PLN 440 fee, income check and full timeline, step by step. Ask us on WhatsApp.

Ramon's phone buzzes at 22:40. It's his wife in Cebu, and the kids are shouting 'Papa!' over her shoulder. Same question as last week, and the week before: when are we coming? He's worked in a warehouse near Łódź for two years and four months, and every forum thread he's read about family reunification in Poland gives him a different answer. So here's the plain version for 2026: who can bring a wife and kids, which papers you order from Manila, what it costs in PLN, and how long it takes before they walk out into the arrivals hall. No jargon, no promises we can't keep.

So, who can actually bring a wife and kids to Poland?

Not everyone, and not on day one. Polish law ties family reunification to how long you've been here legally. According to the official immigration guidance on gov.pl, your spouse and minor children can join you on a temporary residence permit if you hold one of these:

Read that last line twice. The count is two years on temporary residence permits, not two years since you landed on a visa or a work-permit-only stay. As we read the rule, time before your first card doesn't count. Pull out your card and the earlier ones, and check the dates before you spend a single złoty on translations.

On top of the clock, the office checks three more things: a stable, regular income that covers the whole household, health insurance for each family member, and a real place to live. We'll go through each below. The marriage also has to be one that Polish law recognises. If you married in the Philippines, a PSA marriage certificate with an apostille usually does that job.

Cebu to Warsaw is a long flight. The family reunification paperwork shouldn't be the longer journey.

Which family reunification documents does the office want?

You file, not your wife. If your family is still abroad, you submit the application in Poland and attach their written consent. The voivode offices say so on their own guidance pages. Here's the working list. Your office may add items, so treat it as the skeleton.

  1. The application form for a temporary residence permit for family reunification, signed by you, plus your spouse's written consent.
  2. Copies of every family member's passport, certified as true copies by the office clerk, a notary or a legal adviser. Bring the originals.
  3. Your marriage certificate from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), apostilled, with a sworn Polish translation.
  4. Each child's PSA birth certificate, apostilled and translated the same way.
  5. Your Karta Pobytu and earlier permits, to prove the two years.
  6. Proof of stable income: your contract, payslips and ZUS contributions.
  7. Health insurance for your spouse and each child.
  8. A rental agreement or other proof of where the family will live.
  9. Proof that you paid the PLN 440 application fee.

Two notes on the papers from the Philippines. First, Poland and the Philippines both belong to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille from the Philippine DFA is enough. There's no chain of embassy stamps (the Polish embassy explains it on its apostille page). Second, since March 2026 the DFA also issues apostilles on PSA civil-status documents in digital form. Ask the office and your sworn translator whether they accept the e-version or want a printed one. Don't guess, because a rejected document costs weeks.

Insurance is the item people leave for last and regret. Whether ZUS or a private policy works for your family depends on your situation. We broke it down in our health insurance for Karta Pobytu guide.

How much does it cost, and how much do you need to earn?

Let's talk money. The application fee for a temporary residence permit is PLN 440, and the residence card costs PLN 100 once the permit is granted. Plan for this per person, because every family member gets their own application and their own card. Confirm the exact amounts with your office before paying, since fee pages differ between voivodeships. Apostilles and sworn translations come on top, and prices vary by translator, so ask for a per-page quote first.

Then income. The office wants a stable, regular source of income that covers living costs for you and the people you support. The yardstick commonly used is the social-assistance income criterion. Since 1 January 2025 it's PLN 1,010 net a month for a person living alone and PLN 823 net per person in a family. For you, your wife and two children, that arithmetic gives 4 × 823 = PLN 3,292 net a month as a floor. It's a yardstick, not a guarantee. Rent and the rest of your household budget count too.

You prove income with your contract and with ZUS contributions that show you're really being paid (you can check your record at zus.pl). If you're not sure your pay holds up, start with our PLN 4,806 minimum wage check.

Birth and marriage certificates: order them early, because apostille and translation are the slow part.

How long does family reunification in Poland take, start to finish?

Nobody can give you one honest number, because three clocks run one after another: your preparation, the office, and the consulate. Here's the order of play.

  1. Check your dates. Two years on temporary permits, and your latest permit issued for at least a year. If it's close, ask us whether to wait or renew first.
  2. Order the PSA certificates, get the DFA apostille, and find a sworn translator in Poland. This is the part you control, so start it first.
  3. Get your wife's signed consent.
  4. File in person at the voivode office (book through MOS where your office uses it) and pay PLN 440.

Wait for the decision. The nominal deadline is 60 days, but offices regularly run longer. Our Karta Pobytu timeline guide shows what moves a case along and what to do when it stalls.

  1. After a positive decision, your wife and children apply for an entry visa at the Polish consulate in their country, on the strength of that decision.
  2. They fly. After arrival come fingerprints and the card, PLN 100 per card.

Here's an illustrative example, not a real client. Joel, a Filipino welder in Gdańsk, reached his two-year mark in March and filed in April with every certificate apostilled. He still lost three weeks because the translation of his marriage certificate had his wife's middle name misspelled. Same person, two spellings, one rejected page. The fix was boring, a corrected translation, and then the case moved on.

Practical tip: Make one master sheet with every family member's name exactly as printed in the passport, then check each certificate, translation and form against it letter by letter. A mismatched spelling is the cheapest mistake to avoid and one of the most annoying to fix.
Arrivals hall, finally. For most families the visa at the consulate is the last step before the flight.

What if the office says no, or the wait drags on?

A refusal isn't the end, but the clock is short: the appeal window is 14 days. Our guide to a refused Karta Pobytu for a spouse walks through day one. While your family waits abroad, keep working and keep your own status in order, because job changes and renewals don't pause for paperwork. Once they arrive on a family permit, the residence card carries a note giving access to the labour market, so your wife can take a job without a separate work permit.

Two years of waiting is enough. Let's make sure one missing apostille doesn't add three more months. Legal Solutions — 98% approval rate. Drop us a WhatsApp — we read every message.

Frequently asked questions

I've been in Poland only 14 months. Can I bring my family now?

Under the main family reunification rule, not yet. You need two years on temporary residence permits first. In the meantime your wife may qualify on her own basis, a job offer for example, so don't assume the door is shut. Send us your card dates on WhatsApp and we'll tell you the earliest sensible date to file.

Does my wife have to be in Poland to apply?

No. You file in Poland on her behalf and attach her written consent. After a positive decision, she and the children apply for entry visas at the Polish consulate in their country and travel once the visas are issued.

Can my wife work in Poland on a family permit?

Yes. The family permit gives access to the labour market, and the residence card carries a note saying so. She doesn't need a separate work permit. She does need her own insurance and, like everyone, a contract that matches what the office sees.

Which children count, and what if only one parent travels?

Minor children, meaning those under 18. Bring birth certificates showing the parents' names. If the other parent isn't travelling with the kids, ask us what consent or custody papers the office will expect before you order and translate anything.
